Week 1 Recap & Power Rankings

Leave all hope, ye who enter here.

Football is finally back. The hope of the preseason and draft is replaced by reality and shock and awe of week 1. Some big injuries are already plaguing the league. Rodgers going down after 4 plays on MNF tops the list, followed by J.K. Dobbins tearing his Achilles in what could be a potential career ender.

Two major upsets this week with the Lions ousting the Chiefs, and the Jets trouncing the Bills. Both of these primetime games were pretty awesome to watch, and both came down to the wire. I was personally invested in the Jets game. I was sweating like it was my super bowl. Sorry Chu, but I earned this luck from last year. (something something Kyle Philips).

Fun fact: All teams except Josh and Scott underperformed their projections

Weekly Recap

For our league's average, it was a ...pretty average week. Scott and Josh are looking to be the top dogs so far, with Mike not too far behind, but honestly his depth is non-existent, and should scare him. Scott's value drafting strategy, taking all the guys no one wanted at well below ADP, has played out nicely for week 1.

We had two big Monday night sweats, and the script could not have played out more perfectly for the winners, myself and Brett. All I needed was some barely competent play out of Zach Wilson and the Jets, and Brett needed Allen and the Bills to collapse. My win was punctuated by an incredible touchdown catch by Garret Wilson, and the Jets returning a punt for a walkoff TD in OT, and Brett's win was all up to momentum from the Jets overshadowing Allen to clinch the win. What a week.

This Week's Matchup of the Week: Josh v Mike
Both teams are coming off great scoring matchups from the week previous with Josh putting up 2nd in points, and Mike putting up 3rd. Both teams look like they have a solid starting 11, and frankly both have ugly looking depth. Mike's RBs are the most suspect, but that's to be expected with a 0RB draft approach. If one of his receivers goes down, he's gonna be hurting. Josh seems to have the same problem, no RBs to support his top 2.

If Tua balls out again, and Mike's receivers go off, I think he has a chance to upset, but all things have to go right. MVP Mahomes isn't going to let them drop 0-2 to the Lions and the Jags. I don't see that happening. I'm gonna say Josh takes this, but I'll give the spread -7.

Team Notes:

Josh: A good draft, a great week 1, and a decent team name. Maybe this is Josh's year...after 20 years. The only glaring weakness is the bench. 2 Denver WRs, untested rookies and injuries/suspensions. And Zeke fuckin sucks.

Scott: This man knows how to draft. Value value value. And seemingly no bias influences his decisions. Once Kelce is back for good watch the fuck out.

Brett: London and Fields looked like risks for Week 1, but the rest of the roster has a ton of upside. Choosing the right flex and depending on Fields is gonna be the story of your life.

Mike: I love Tua. Your starting WRs are by far tops in the league. Your RBs are so mid it's not even funny. Pitts has talent, but not in Arthur Smith's offense, that's Bijan's world. And you know how I feel about Goff.

David: I'm not sure you understand FAAB still. Ekeler might not play this week and you put $6 on Kelley. And Isaiah Likely is still on your roster coming in at TE33 via ECR. If Allen doesn't shatter on the field, and Kirk learns to not fear his own shadow, you got a chance, for something.

Joe: This team was the definition of hope. A lot of youth, a lot of upside, and a lot of risk. Kupp's injury could hit you for a while, so you better hope you squeak out a least one win while he's out. Gibbs looks like he'll be underutilized just like Swift was. And Allen won't fall to the Jets every week.

Will: I think my biggest hole is gonna be inconsistent play from my WRs, and praying that Waller's hammy doesn't snap. I love my depth, and without rosterbating, I think I've got one of the best benches in the league.

Boyer: Might have the strongest QBs in the league, upside WRs, and solid RBs. After that it starts to fall off. Hock should be good, and ODB may have found a spot that finally works..for his dad. I'm surprised you haven't made a deal to trade your whole roster yet.

Jordan: A rough week 1 doesn't mean the end. Jackson and Chase should rebound just fine. Najee fuckin sucks, good luck with that headache. Geno..should..be..okay? Bench is a total bust. Sam Howell could get things going, and didn't look bad. At least your got Kelley, that could pan out if Ekeler stays down bad.

Chu: I've played Chu in week 1 for the last 3 years in a row. I'm 2-1 against him. Chu is cursed and he didn't even name his team after Rodgers. His team is far from being able to get off the ground until at least Taylor "comes back". Hold on tight my friend.
