Week 2 Recap - Sunday, Bloody Sunday

This week saw perhaps the most injuries to top players we've ever seen in league history. Both the 1st (McCaffrey, Raj) and 3rd (Barkley, Jordan) overall picks from the draft went down for 4-6 weeks and the season respectively. Outside of that, Chu probably lost the most players with Sutton, Thomas, and Fuller from lingering or new injuries. Otherwise, both offensive and defensive injuries and other notable injuries across the league will affect many NFL teams going forward. I would be very surprised if this trend doesn't continue in the league this year.

Four teams kept their undefeated records (Mike, Scott, Will, and Raj), while four are still searching for their first win (Jordan, Boyer, Chu, Joe). It's only week 2, but we now have our season's highest single-week score (Scott, 201.06), and lowest single-week score (Josh, 94.56).

With our new Covid lineup changes, the waivers should be especially competitive this year. Fewer and less viable options means more teams will be going after the same players, increasing demand and therefore increasing value. I'm interested to see how it shakes out.

Chubbrona Virus (174.22, 2-0) vs Sutton But Trouble (118.64, 0-2)

This game was projected to be much closer of a matchup. Chu was plagued by the injury bug, and lost 2 more players in Sutton and Fuller. Bright spots are Matt Ryan finishing as the QB4, and Mike Evans benefitting from Godwin out from concussion finishing at WR5. 0-2 isn't a season killer, keep your head up my dude.

Will scored 4th most points in the league this week with notable performances from Cam as the QB6, and Nick Chubb on a comeback week finishing as the RB3. Solid performances across the board except for Mark Andrews, who vastly underperformed projections. The Bucs shut down the Panthers and finished as the DEF2. They look like an underrated defense that could pay off dividends.

Browntown (199.36, 2-0) vs Young Hoe(s) (175.88, 0-2)

This game had the highest scoring total and was accurately predicted as the matchup of the week.

Mike's team destroyed this week led by Aaron Jones dismantling Detroit, and Kamara crushing his matchup even though the Saints lost. Jones and Kamara easily finished as the RB1 & RB2 respectively. Mike's team is looking fierce, but a notable injury to Mostert who had fantastic middle-round value could affect him going forward.

Jordan ran into a wall called Mike, and even though he lost Barkley for the season, he still put up 3rd most points of the week in the loss. His team was carried heavily by Dak's finish as QB3, and Calvin Ridley's finish as WR2. Interesting note, Calvin Ridley leads the NFL receiving touchdowns since 2018 with 21 in 31 games — Julio Jones has 21 in his past 61 games.

Mahome Improvement (124.18, 1-1) vs Deuces Never LosesII (94.56, 1-1)

Truly a couple of duds for both Brett and Josh this week. Both teams surely were hoping to perform better. Brett luckily got his first win, and Josh was handed his first lost in a true race to the bottom.

Mahomes performed as expected at QB8, although the Chiefs were looking like they were struggling early in Los Angeles. In the end it didn't matter as Brett, the league's inventor of DP, had his Mahomes/Kelce stack pay off nicely. Terry McLaurin performed admirably as well finishing as the WR4. Brett was also hit by the injury bug with Davante Adams, although it doesn't look to be serious.

Josh surprisingly was not hit by the injury bug, but vastly underperformed his projections by ~51 points. The Vikings got steamrolled by the Colts and the Cousins/Thielen stack put up a total of 0.86 points -- yikes. Watson also underperformed, but that looks to be the case for anyone facing Baltimore. Sanders and Cook were the lone bright spots finishing at RB13 and RB17 respectively.

Massive Johnson(s) (152.06, 2-0) vs Average Joe(s) (101.5, 0-2)

Raj was looking like a major force in the league last week, but came back down to earth with the 6th most points for week 2. Joe is still searching for his first win, and has a tough road ahead of him facing Scott in week 3.

Raj's week was majorly affected by McCaffrey's injury. It's never a good thing to lose the first overall pick, but it seems he won't be without him forever. He had great performances from Kyler Murray as the QB7 and Tyler Higbee absolutely crushing his projection and finishing as the TE1. My guess is he throws a bunch of FAAB at Mike Davis tonight.

Joe should be pleased with Joe Burrow's performance as QB9, but he won't always be playing Cleveland unfortunately. His first 2 picks in Lamar Jackson and Joe Mixon missed their projections by a combined 35%. He also was hit by the injury bug losing Campbell for an extended time, so maybe he looks to the wire for a replacement. As said earlier, 0-2 isn't a season killer, so keep your head up.

A Few DangerRuss Men (201.06, 2-0) vs Bills Mafia (166.58, 0-2)

Scott claimed the highest single-week score for this season with the first 200+ point performance of the season. Boyer looked to put up a tough matchup for him until Russell Wilson put a stop to that on Sunday Night.

Scott had top performers across the board. Check out these finishes: Wilson QB1, Edelman WR3, Waller TE3, and Hunt RB5. If Russ keeps tossing out these performances and the rest of his team can keep up this production Scott will be a force to reckon with. Interesting note, Russell Wilson's 72 fantasy points are the 4th most all-time by a QB in his first 2 games. He'll look to keep the streak going against struggling Joe next week.

Boyer performed admirably in a losing battle. Matchups are key in fantasy football, and you just happened to draw the short straw. Josh Allen had a smash week at QB2, and is showing great value for where he was drafted. The Allen/Diggs stack also paid off with a WR1 finish. The Ravens defense is a perennial force finishing as DEF1. CEH came back to earth with 100 rushing yards less than week 1, but the Chiefs lost Williams, which may bolster their rookie star.

Good luck to all in week 3!
