The end of the QB Era
Week 2 is in the books and that means another recap of things entirely unrelated to what just happened in Week 2 because I think that shit is boring. I'm going to talk about other trends which I think are cool: the end of the QB Era.
It sure feels like the past few years look a bit different from the previous decade. What happened to my boys Brees, Brady, and Manning (Eli, of course), chucking the ball 25 yards down the field to find a wide open receiver behind the middle linebacker in front of 2 deep safeties? Why is there so much dinking, dunking, and passes behind the line of scrimmage? Here are some trends since 2004. Why did I start at 2004? I dunno, probably because the era must start with this guy getting drafted #1 overall.

Passing yards per game. 2024 is way down, but its only 2 weeks into the season.

Adjusted Net Yards per pass attempt factors in passing yards, sacks, TDs and interceptions.

Most importantly from the offense's point of view, interception rates are down.

Sometime around 2014, the 0 RB draft strategy was introduced, but I think we've entered the 0 QB and 0 WR draft strategy.
If you want a real explanation for this trend, but from the defense's point of view, this video goes into X's and O's on how defenses turn QBs into check-down artists. I expect Josh to make his own reaction video on how 12 personnel beats this defense.

Are we the "best" League?
Remember when we used to brag about how "cool" our league was for doing certain things? Fully in-person drafts, ridiculous draft order games, funny trophies and last-place punishments? Yeah, we still do most of that, but so do most leagues. The gambling industry had this interesting article about how most people run their leagues. Here are some snippets.

73% spent on live entertainment? Come on Jordan, where's our draft day entertainment? Also, where was our $100 worth of soda?!?

Damn, 84% of fantasy players have a college degree? For reference, only about 48% of people over 25 have a degree.
